Reseña: Broken Banners (a Reaper of Stone #2)

Broken Banners (A Reaper of Stone, #2)Broken Banners (a Reaper of Stone #2)

by

Mark Gelineau

Blurb: Slaughtered and left for crows, soldiers of the King’s Army lay dead in a field. A grim reminder: the king’s law ends at the gates of the capital. Elinor fought for what she believed and now she is an outcast. No soldier will follow her. No officer will stand with her. Yet when she finds her brothers and sisters slaughtered, she cannot turn her back on them.

My bookshelf: warriors, netgalley,  fantasia-epica, adventure, novella-novelette, ends-in-cliffhanger

Maybe because is a novella I feel the lack of some deep thoughts from the main character (Elinor), however, the change of 3 different POV could be part of the reason.

Aldis is asigned to a task. Elinor make it happen. The open end. Well , in fact is a tbc.

BLURB: Fathered by an incubus, raised by a mortal mother, and liaison to the Pemkowet Police Department, Daisy Johanssen pulled the community together after a summer tragedy befell the resort town she calls home. Things are back to normal — as normal as it gets for a town famous for its supernatural tourism and presided over by the reclusive Norse goddess Hel.

BLURB: Tensions between the fae and humans are coming to a head. And when coyote shapeshifter Mercy and her Alpha werewolf mate, Adam, are called upon to stop a rampaging troll, they find themselves with something that could be used to make the fae back down and forestall out-and-out war: a human child stolen long ago by the fae.

He thought he was fighting a girl with a stick when he was fighting Adam’s mate, Coyote’s daughter, armed with Lugh’s staff.

Seems too much deus ex machina - but Do I Care about it? Heck no.

Old fashion fairytale kind of Fae, werewolves, old acquitances, politics. I laughed, worried, and be a little sad.

Unappreciated Gifts by Patricia Briggs
Some members of Adam's pack think Asil should get out more, so they've challenged him to accept a series of blind dates . . .

A successful date is one in which a) neither party runs screaming into the night b) there are no dead bodies at the end of it and c) lasts longer than two hours—at least an hour and a half of which is spent with your date—which is an hour and fifty minutes longer than we expect any date of yours to last.

Sweet and fun.

“I thought you wanted to dig up my floor!” As soon as I said it, I realized I sounded defensive. I also began to wonder if “dig up my floor” sounded like a euphemism for something else entirely, and I felt myself blushing again.
“Did you change your mind about letting me?”
     “No.”
“Did you change your mind about the sex?”
     “No!”
“Well then, not much reason to stay.” He turned to leave, but stopped in my door and glanced at me over his shoulder.  “Give me a call if you change your mind.”
It wasn’t until after he left that I stopped to wonder if he was talking about the floor or the sex.

If you’re vacationing in Pemkowet, or anywhere on the planet with a functioning underworld, do not mess around with a Ouija board. The spirit you summon might just pay a visit. Mom learned that the hard way, and I’m living proof of it.
Daisy Johanssen, reluctant hell-spawn. That’s me

I'm a bit lost about set a warning in here because after reading tons of M/M material (coffanfictioncof) I know that this particular issue put off many people. Alas Spoiler: -------> after Harry Potter's fanfic explanations of magical wombs and potions, and c-sections, though this was a new one, it was really weird and gross :P <.------------------

I didn't read the first novel of the serie, but I think that can be read as stand alone.
It's a short novel, but I think that the trope of 'misunderstanding' that maybe could works in some comedies, is not working here because is center to the comprehension between the couple. Jobe took a LOT for granted. Not cool. What happen with talk the things in detail to get to know each other instead of "oh, I thought you knew" after all the business is done?

And the sex, sorry but not steamy either.

So. Nope.

(I won this ebook in a giveaway. Thanks guys)
