It began on New Year’s Eve.
The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed—and more than half of the world’s population was decimated.
Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magic rose up in its place. Some of it is good, like the witchcraft worked by Lana Bingham, practicing in the loft apartment she shares with her lover, Max. Some of it is unimaginably evil, and it can lurk anywhere, around a corner, in fetid tunnels beneath the river—or in the ones you know and love the most.
As word spreads that neither the immune nor the gifted are safe from the authorities who patrol the ravaged streets, and with nothing left to count on but each other, Lana and Max make their way out of a wrecked New York City. At the same time, other travelers are heading west too, into a new frontier. Chuck, a tech genius trying to hack his way through a world gone offline. Arlys, a journalist who has lost her audience but uses pen and paper to record the truth. Fred, her young colleague, possessed of burgeoning abilities and an optimism that seems out of place in this bleak landscape. And Rachel and Jonah, a resourceful doctor and a paramedic who fend off despair with their determination to keep a young mother and three infants in their care alive.
In a world of survivors where every stranger encountered could be either a savage or a savior, none of them knows exactly where they are heading, or why. But a purpose awaits them that will shape their lives and the lives of all those who remain.
The end has come. The beginning comes next.

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

No me cabe .

No. No me gustó. La escritura es desconexa además.

BLURB; Africa, 1830. Atar Gull, a strapping young slave, finds himself on a certain Captain Benoît’s ship, on his way to the West Indies to be sold. This is no ordinary slave. After a long, unimaginably tough trip, Atar Gull winds up in Jamaica in the service of a plantation owner. It is with this plantation owner that his tragic destiny is entwined.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Humanity at its worst. Adapted from a XIX century novel, while slaves were loaded from Africa to the markets. Brutal tale of greed and hypocrisy, with a harsh irony narrate the journey, the men in the traffic, and the deaths. Later, continue with the crude life in a plantation. And with Atar Gull, the slave, displaying all his vengeance without any commiseration.

2** art
3 *** no-esta-mal story.

My bookshelves: netgalley-arcs, graphic-novel, comics, adventure-and-action, bloody-and-gory, nanotech, superheroes-and-supervillains,

Great teaser for the rest of the story.

This is the trope of 'killing machine let his past behind and goes to live a happy simple life with woman and baby' ... except then makes a very bad decision and all goes to hell.

Bloodshot aka Ray Garrison is living in Minessota with his love, Magic, and a baby girl, Jessie. All is well, until a overheard phone call send him in a hunt seeking revenge. Ray was/is a supersoldier proyect with nanites in him that gives him almost imparable regenerative status and speed , was used as assasin wiping his mind (imagine that! cough).

While Ray is hunting old demons and making said big mistake (you know, breaking promises - baaad) , an old organization is rising again, OMEN, looking for using the nanite proyect with a srly creepy chief aboard.

Just when she thinks nothing could make this trip any worse, she learns people there are dying of hunger and preventable disease. Hannah becomes frustrated and wants to help, but when poverty threatens the lives of people she loves, all she wants to do is go home. This story is an adventure of discovery.

My rating: 3.5 nyoyo stars

When Uncle Brian , her favorite uncle, invited Hannah to Kenya to meet his friends invested in humanitarian goals and the school in Sauri, she is not specially thrilled at first but despite no water, no much food choices and the gross incoveniences she discover cheerful people and a place in her heart.

When you lived harsh conditions day-by-day -even for few weeks- is totally another matter. Water and food are grossly underestimated for granted for most of the kids, until is not.

Not for me.

Teen angst fantasy of children vs parents.

-----------------

Love Robot+Petri. But i see some deep s** happening if those brilliant idea of his is on.

Hazel deserves a new personality and lot of spanking. This character is so annoyig that i don't get why all the trouble the parents are living for her, just let her die.

Those seekers of revenge -imaginary or not- uf. Still a bit puzzle for the survival of The Will.

The amazing art is back!

Maika or better said Zinn make a deal.

Complicated situation for Maika. And Zinn is giving more 'independence' , for lack of better words.

And a young fox seems to be at door of a revelation. To tell the truth, I'm starting to feel more and more suspicious of Kippa. Maybe is just me.

BLURB: Hugo Award-winning MONSTRESS returns with a new arc and an oversized issue! Maika has spent most of her life learning how to fight, but how will she fare when the only way to save her life…is to make friends?

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

Shhh... me think the Cumaean forces managed to kidnap our dearest Sana Takeda because ... I found some of the art wanting!! :wails: Some panels seems really like drawn by another person! :in denial: I'm baffled, people. I don't know if is some kind of experiment but no, just no.

This is the new arc of one of my favorite fantasy series in graphic format. After the revelations of the last volume, I was expecting some hints about Maika's progenitor - silly me.

Well, Maika arrives to some new location -a refugee camp near Pontus, and spies descend upon the little group. Family, friends/frenemies(?) and enemies, all look now for Zinn her and apparently know more about her than Maika herself.
