 Chengli is an orphaned errand boy who lives in Chang’an China in 630 A.D. His mother has died from illness and his father is presumed dead after disappearing into the desert when Chengli was a baby.
Now thirteen, Chengli feels ready for independence. He is drawn to the desert, beckoned by the howling of strange winds and the hope of learning something about his father— who he was and how he died.
Chengli joins the caravan to travel down the merchant route known as the Silk Road, but it is a dangerous life, as his father knew. The desert is harsh, and there are many bandits, particularly drawn to Chengli's caravan because a princess, her servants, and royal guards are traveling with them.

My rating: 3.5 estrellas viajeras

Chengli es un niño huérfano de 13 años en la China de 630 dC, en la ciudad imperial de Chang’an, sirve como sirviente de un mercader de seda. Sus idas al mercado atraen sus ansias por viajar hacia el desierto, atraido por el llamado de los vientos, de modo que decide dejar todo lo que conoce en un intento por averiguar qué fue de su padre, quien segun le contaron fue un inspector imperial que murió a manos de bandidos cuando él todavia era un bebé quedando luego al cuidado de una vieja cocinera tras morir su madre.

Debe convencer al jefe de una caravana de camellos para que le deje acompañarlos laborando. A partir de allí se dearrolla un viaje que describe este viaje por la mítica ruta de la seda camino al oeste. Bandidos, tormentas de arena, el duro clima, meses de trabajo duro del amanecer al anochecer, y la sed son cosas diarias.

Esta es la tercera parte de los Diarios de Murderbot, el cyber de seguridad que tiene una extraña relación con su protocolo y con los humanos. Explora un mundo de exploradores espaciales donde parece que nadie ha escuchado hablar de Skynet (de Terminator)  er, cof... donde se explora el despertar de esta conciencia en una entidad cibernética mientras viaja con determinación como polizón por transportes automatizados.

Mientras esta en viaje las noticias le avisan que se le busca porque se le da con paradero desconocido, y aun sin ser de la compañia esto de tener un SecUnit armado por ahi a nadie le hace gracia (esas peliculas y series que tanto le gustan a MB tienen la culpa de ello, ya saben :P ) Y... de paso se entera

que la misma empresa minera que les fastidió antes se ha echado un proyecto de terraformación asi que va para allá pensando en obtener pruebas de sus malas prácticas en busqueda ilegal de restos de civilizaciones no-humanas.

pero no me atrevo a ponerle 3 estrellas a Wells.

I’m not normally afraid of things, the way humans are. I’ve been shot hundreds of times, so many times I stopped keeping count, so many times the company stopped keeping count. I’ve been chewed on by hostile fauna, run over by heavy machinery, tortured by clients for amusement, memory purged, etc., etc. But the inside of my head had been my own for +33,000 hours and I was used to it now. I wanted to keep me the way I was.

Nuestro amig@ que se denomino a sí mism@ Murderbot, (en inglés un "it" sin género), ha dejado al grupo explorador de su novella anterior -Dr. Mensah de PreservationAux- para ir en busca de respuestas a algo que le atormenta de su pasado y que le ha llevado a la autodenominación antes mencionada.

Esta es la segunda entrega en forma de novella del space opera de Martha Wells acerca de un cyber especializado en seguridad, un SecUnit, un supersoldado/mercenario creado de metal y un poco de materia orgánica clonada como servicio de seguridad de la Compañía, que son principalmente contratados por compañías mineras que explotan planetoides. 

Su paranoia le lleva a hackear cámaras y bots buscando pasar desapercibido
