ISBN: 0692171622 (ISBN13: 9780692171622)
Edition Language: English
Series: FFO #1

BLUB: In the real world, twenty-one-year-old library sciences student Tina Anderson is invisible and under-appreciated, but in the VR-game Forever Fantasy Online she's Roxxy--the respected leader and main tank of a top-tier raiding guild. In the real world, her brother James Anderson is a college drop-out struggling under debt, but in FFO he's famous--an explorer who's gotten every achievement, done every quest, and collected all the rarest items.
Both Tina and James need the game more than they'd like to admit, but their favorite escape turns into a trap when FFO becomes a living world. Wounds are no longer virtual, stupid monsters become cunning, NPCs start acting like actual people, and death might be forever.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is my first gamer-lit book. I'm not a gamer, but I liked the fantasy of another world reality stuff. This is a know trope about the players stranded inside the game, that I think I see it before in movies?

I liked the character of James in his inside the village situation, rather than Tina, with her close minded mentality.

------

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

BLURB:  Ulysses, a widower for several years, loses his job as a mover at age 59 and loses his sense of being. Mediterranea, 62 and never married, loses her mother and officially becomes the oldest member of her family. Fate brings them together and helps them to much more than just heal

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Graphic novel. Literatura francesa.

Art - 3.5 / 5
Story - 1 / 5

There are many things in the story that rubs me the wrong way, so... it's not of my liking. And since this is just my personal taste, well, that.

Blossoms in Autumn, -which in French is called "The programmed obsolescence of our sentiments"- is about two aging people who know each other and get together. Ullyses with 59 years old is lay off from a moving company, the loneliness and emptiness of his days is well told. While Mediterranea, with 62 years, still works in a cheese factory, she is going through her own crisis of loneliness after the death of her mother whom she cared for.

Newsflash - Life does not end at 50, or at 60. And I must say (coming from a family that mostly lives after the 90s and a hundred years) not even after that. And yes, they still have sex in some cases. I mean, my maternal grandfather was a hardworking , mean, and lecherous man until the day he died at 96 years old.

But it is Ulysses wich bother me. He repeats again and again that 'he hate reading'. STRIKE ONE. I don't know if that hints at problems like dyslexia? but srly? not good.

BLURB: Lights. Camera. Romance.
Jessica Quillen, veterinarian for the charitable K-9 Angelz program, didn’t mean to stumble into the middle of a New York movie shoot. She just wanted to rescue the stray dog she’d been chasing. Instead, she’s playing catch-up with her ex-fiancé—and the screen’s hottest action hero, Hugh Baker. The only man she ever loved. The dream that disappeared. The heartthrob who’s now hoping for a “take two.”
Seeing Jessica triggers emotions Hugh has tried to forget. Abandoned by his mother to foster care, he still struggles to feel worthy of love and to open his heart to a woman. His biggest mistake was not trusting Jessica. It was his fault she left. All he wants now is to make up for lost time. But he has to prove that she can trust him.

My rating: 2.8 stars de 5

This is a second chance story. Hugh and Jessica broke their engagement 8 years ago; a rising actor and a commited veterinarian that were separated for their life choices. But now when Hugh, a successful action movie star, sees her in N.Y. still helping animals start to think that perhaps this time will be different. Or maybe not.

I like this kind of stories where couples give themselves a second chance. Especially because there were no betrayals here. Only those misunderstandings that are the epitome of all these romance stories. However, many of the things that are said are very valid and understandable. That is, because he does what he does and because she lets it 'flow'.

BLURB: Heir apparent to her father’s company, Lizzy Banks needs a man. The perfect man. But when the rich “fundbabies” she usually rubs shoulders with prove impossible to hire, she takes a chance on a raw beast of a man salvaged from the wreckage of a bar brawl.
James Rowan earns a modest income as a YouTube daredevil, but he can’t refuse Lizzy’s million dollar deal. As she polishes his rough edges, creating a sophisticated gentleman fit for the highest circles of society, not only does she bring out the perfect man—it’s like she’s making the man of her dreams. How can she resist?

My rating: 1.5 stars

Elizabeth Banks lives to please her father, so she does not want to disappoint him when she decides to look for a model for the new line of formal menswear. But instead of getting a millionaire, Elizabeth gets James Rowan who is dedicated to performing risky physical challenges on YouTube in exchange for money.

The story starts well, and I liked it at first, but then she continues playing up with her zero self-esteem and becomes an unbearable character.

BLURB: Fifteenth century Venice is a safe haven for the masterless dregs of the vampire world, a city where they can live without the fear of retribution for violating another’s territory.
Still, there are plenty of ways for a young vampire to die in the glittering city, a lesson that prince turned pauper Mircea Basarab must learn quickly. But there are opportunities, too—in the service of a secretive courtesan, in the bed of a beautiful senator, and in the hunt for an ancient assassin.
As a vendetta older than Venice itself comes to a climax, Mircea struggles to evade the dangers of his current life, to come to terms with his past, and to uncover the truth hidden behind a city of masks…

Maybe our kingdoms were smaller, just a house we built with our own two hands, a wife we loved, a child. But do you think they meant any less? Do you think we mourn their loss one bit less than you?
BLURB: "Sunshine” is what everyone calls her. She works long hours in her family’s coffeehouse, making her famous “Cinnamon Rolls as Big as Your Head,” Bitter Chocolate Death, Caramel Cataclysm, and other sugar-shock specials that keep the customers coming. She’s happy in her bakery which her stepfather built specially for her but sometimes she feels that she should have life outside the coffeehouse.
One evening she drives out to the lake to get away from her family, to be alone. There hasn’t been any trouble at the lake for years.
But there is trouble that night for Sunshine. But there is trouble that night for Sunshine. She is abducted by a gang of vampires
And now he needs her help to survive the day..

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What this world doesn’t have is the three-wishes, go-to-the-ball-and-meet-your-prince, happily-ever-after kind of magic. We have all the mangling and malevolent kinds. Who invented this system?

BLURB: After years of struggle, Elena Michaels has finally accepted her life as a werewolf, and learned how to control her wild side.
At least, that's what she believes when she sets off to investigate a series of gruesome murders outside Anchorage. The truth, however, is more complicated. Trapped in a frozen, unforgiving terrain, Elena is forced to confront a deadly secret, and her own, untamed nature...

My rating: 3.5 bleeding stars

Gotta to say that this series by Armstrong (formerly know as Women of Otherworld) is at it best in the werewolves front, and Jamie. I am not fan of Savannah the witch , so I skip those books.

And now, about this book: First - TRIGGER WARNING: lot of rapists running around and violent attempted rapes.

The story? Elena follow a mutt (a werewolf without pack) trying to warn him b/c was framed for murder. The guy flees and so Elena and Clay end in Alaska. There, Clay find an old friend , and more mutts, and more crimes and murder and people missing... and maybe some old folk tale.

There were no humans here. No werewolves. No mysterious beasts. Just something… else. Something primitive, capricious and cruel. Some magic, deep in the forest, that cared little for my survival.

Great teaser for the rest of the story.

This is the trope of 'killing machine let his past behind and goes to live a happy simple life with woman and baby' ... except then makes a very bad decision and all goes to hell.

Bloodshot aka Ray Garrison is living in Minessota with his love, Magic, and a baby girl, Jessie. All is well, until a overheard phone call send him in a hunt seeking revenge. Ray was/is a supersoldier proyect with nanites in him that gives him almost imparable regenerative status and speed , was used as assasin wiping his mind (imagine that! cough).

While Ray is hunting old demons and making said big mistake (you know, breaking promises - baaad) , an old organization is rising again, OMEN, looking for using the nanite proyect with a srly creepy chief aboard.

first idea: get better after the start.

Nathan works as escort at a club in New Camden. No sad stories, or urgent pression to be prostitute btw. Country boy, still is fascinated by the supernatural life of the city; likes the dance , the thrill of be wanted. When Hunter hired Nate for a private party as a'shared gift'(in case you're wondering it was m-m-m-m), he accepts despite his inner warnings and the feel that something is not right when he is not able to follow his second thoughts or even can't leave when realise that is a house of vampires ... That really made me struggle to keep reading the book at the start because vampiric compulsion rises here it ugly head (not pun intended), and that is NOT sexy. It's evident when the manager accepts regardless of it's against the politics of the club.

Anyway, Nate now keep thinking in Ben , the honoured, a younger vampire. There is even a joke of Aki, his best friend, about Twilight (and yeah broody tortured dead vampire and young obsessed uh escort. Totally ;P).

BUT then this story take a curve into THRILLER territory.

BLURB: A labyrinth of a library. Watchful eyes in the dark. And a woman with nowhere – and nobody – to call home. In MINOTAUR IN STONE, Marjorie M. Liu transports her heroine into the arms of the tragically cursed Minotaur. After millennia of being trapped by an ancient king, the Minotaur has given up hope of escaping the dark labyrinth that imprisons him. When he feels a connection with the woman he watches every night, however, and she returns his feelings after being summoned to his home, he realizes that she may be the champion he needs, and she realizes that she may be falling in love with the man beneath the monster.

Adult fantasy. A modern take in the Minotaur myth. A young woman living in the fringe , secluded in a library, is conduced in dreams into a dark labyrinth with a not possible man. Both are lost in dark, lonely and with nothing to lose.

[...] to live as an uninvited guest, quiet as a book—and as a book, a dull creature on the surface, but full of the raging wild dark inside the words of my heart.

The start is better than the ending, as far as the way in which the author interweaves the words.

SINOPSIS:
Rhoann Callte, Rhoann Half-Royal, is an impossible Fae. As a shape-shifter, he carries the blood of Fae water elementals and has a once-in-a-generation healing gift. Which is his blessing, or his curse, depending on how you look at it – his gift is needed among the exiled Fae of the Demesne of Purgatory, and he’s coerced from his beloved solitude and sent on a one-way trip to the human world.
Vietnam veteran Mac McAllan has been through hell in the last few months, and not just because his new C-leg isn’t performing up to spec. He and his partner of 34 years, stocky bald muscle bear Lucien de Winter, were working at Purgatory when what the owner said was a gas explosion collapsed the building – and put Lucien into a coma back in August. Now it’s October, and an impossibly handsome stranger says he
can heal Lucien. But there’s always a price…

I chose this book at random, because reminded me nostalgically of other collections.

Not a bad story, but fail to get me emotionally involved.

Mac and Lucien have been through a lot in their years together; and when Lucien is injured after an explosion that left him comatose, Mac feel afraid and lost. He didn't know that they get entangled in an ancient war between fae and their enemies. But help is in the way.

Rhoann is solitary and is pushed in a strange world with other rules.

SINOPSIS: Every living creature on Earth has been devolved - the evolutionary clock turned back, reverting all life to odd mutations and prehistoric incarnations. The cities of man are little more than bloody territories ruthlessly dominated by tribal Neanderthals ruling from the backs of mammoths, packs of saber-toothed tigers, and giant man-eating insects. Raja, one of the few remaining "Still Sapien" humans, heads to San Francisco to find the antidote for the world-changing DVO-8 viral agent. But to cross the wasteland, she'll have to convince the last pocket of humanity to join her quest... and survive the Nazi hillbillies that rule them through fear!

Rick Remender, the acclaimed writer of Black Science, Low, and Deadly Class, unleashes a high-octane dystopian masterpiece on the world, featuring the brilliant artistry of Jonathan Wayshak!

What a mess. A virus invented to erase the religion from humans ...wha?? (yes, a really farfetched premise for a story full of cliches who you could encounter in a midnight "z-movie") transformed the humanity in mad neardenthals , and mutating the rest of biosphere into jurassic park. Yeah, pseudoscience evading all idea of logic. As if neanderthals won't be able to invent some kind of myth and rites (religion) :roll eyes::.

Kitty Katt our average MarySue woman just exited a building when a man suffer a nasty transformation , sprout deadly wings and starting killing people. As everybody normal reaction will be (not) she jump on the guy and kill a slimy blob on him. Well, welcome to Men in Black Meet True Lies Meet Get Smart.. Then , of course, some really georgeous men dressed in Armany arrive to control the situation, and Jeff Martini (and can't you take srly a name like that!) is insta-smitten with Kitty.
