En esta ucronía, en 1953, un meteorito se estrelló contra Estados Unidos. Esto provoca cambios de grandes dimensiones en la Tierra  y con graves consecuencias. Los científicos predicen que la vida en la Tierra sería inviable, por lo que la carrera espacial se ve aqui adelantada por una década, con la esperanza de enviar una colonia a Marte lo antes posible. Por supuesto, no todos creen que esto sucederá, los cambios climáticos no son suficientes (y nosotros vaya que sí lo sabemos). Estamos en medio de una Guerra Fría y los militares están más preocupados por otras cosas.

La historia se cuenta desde la perspectiva de la Doctora Elma York (antes Wexler) quien es una física, matemática y piloto (ex WASP - Pilotos del Servicio de Mujeres de la Fuerza Aérea), mientras que su esposo Nathaniel es ingeniero de cohetes.
 

 Para haberse llevado los 3 premios principales de la ciencia ficcion en 2018-19, resulta que esta historia no me resultó tan impresionante. Es entretenida sí.

The camp is situated in an island surrounded by a creepy fog, with suspicious stories about monsters and missing people. Yeah, the perfect place for your beloved children! Willow use hearing aid and she is able to use sign language.

Primero que nada: Me encanta la portada de esta novela :)

Bueno, no sé de dónde vienen esas etiquetas de algunos de este libro como YA, porque los protagonistas tienen uno 39 y la otra 36. Además, hay mucho sexo. Por si acaso.

April es una geóloga de 36 años, fanática de una serie de televisión llamada "Gods of the Gates" (una versión bastarda de Eneas tirada a Game of Thrones ); ella escribe fanfiction de la pareja Eneas/Lavinia y hace cosplay en secreto. Después de 7 años, el programa está en la última temporada, aumenta la especulación, y ella decide publicar una foto suya de cosplay , mientras tomaba la decisión de dejar de esconder su yo de talla grande, además del cambio de trabajo y de ciudad.

Probablemente muchos de ustedes serán demasiado jovenes para haber conocido a este actor, pero en su tiempo cualquier cosa en que actuaba Yul Bryner arrasaba. Asi que no es de extrañar que el musical y la película se hicieran basado en esta novela, promoviendo el lado romántico y exótico de una inglesa y el rey de Siam fuera una sensación. Para los que son fans de la Bella y la Bestia, la escena del salón de baile esta directamente robado de Ana bailando con el rey. (y con eso no son demasido sutiles con la asociación entre uno y otra).

De sus aventuras cotidianas en ese mundo exótico detrás de las murallas, que esta repleto de mujeres en el harem del rey, princesas , damas, esclavas , siervas, amazonas y juezas, resulta de lo más interesante .

Relato corto y bastante realista de una astronomo cuando descubre un objeto de origen no-terrestre en el espacio. Bueno, ciertamente no pasa como en una pelicula de Hollywood.

Primero debaten de cuando anunciarlo, y a quien le corresponde, las empresas que deben ser auspiciadoras, y ¿en serio vale la pena hacer algo cuando el objeto (sin todavia saber lo que es) esta por años solamente ahi?

First thought: That was... depressing.

The truth is, I didn't remember the first 2 books in this series at all. And by the way, there is no romance in this book, there is quite a lot of fantasy and magic. And many women in power.

What is it about? Well, of shapeshifting breeds that live in permanent conflict (snake and avians), with mistrust and prejudice for thousands of years. The reason seems to be generated in a split of the races by magic, and the conflict has been helped by the falcons.

La gracia de este libro para mi es que es el primero que tenía en mi lista de TBR , desde 2011. YAY; uno menos.

Bien flaco favor le hicieron los publicistas a este libro comparándolo con la serie Harry Potter queriendo subirse a su popularidad. Desde ya les digo que no se le parece en nada. NO hay magos, ni seres de mitologia de cuentos por aqui; asi que tampoco se asemeja a Artemis Fowl II, pese a los subterráneos.

Por alguna extraña razón. no consigo hacer funcionar los llamados "gadgets" de Blogger para arreglar el diseño del blog. De hecho terminé echando a perder una que otra configuración anterior. Uf. Soy persona de escasa paciencia, asi que dentro de unas semanas o meses o el otro año quiza haga otro intento :P

Bueno, a lo mio: quiero dar las gracias a todos los mensajes de ánimo que he recibido y toda la buena vibra que me han enviado. Gracias amigos bloggers  desde mi más yo a su yo ciberespacial.

Y ahora sí mi  RESUMEN DE ENERO A MAYO 2020 , Wrap-Up o algo así. 

Mensaje a mis lectores.

Mis queridos amigos, mis más profundas disculpas por no haber publicado nada hasta ahora, como todos estamos conscientes este es el Año de la Pandemia, y como cosa extraña a todos que estamos encerrados en cuarentena preventiva (y ello contando con muchisima suerte) he encontrado que estamos frente a un fenomeno en el area de la lectura que hasta mis amigos de Goodreads le han puesto nombre "corona-slump". Siempre bromeamos que de tener tiempo leeriamos mucho más, pero muchos como yo, nos encontramos con que nuestra atención se encuentra perdida en otra cosa. He hallado poco que retenga mi atención, y solamente he picoteado por aqui y por alla cosas ligeras.

Me he refugiado en algo de fanfiction, y en series de comedia romantica muy ligera. No leo ni veo dramas ni cosas de horror y eso hace mucho tiempo por asuntos de salud, mental y de la otra.

A todos mis mejores deseos, que esten saludables sobre todo,  y que guardemos la esperanza que todos saldremos adelante. Gracias a todos los que combaten activamente , sacrificandose a diario. Y  espero que halla cambios positivos en el planeta después de esto, aunque mi escepticismo lo crea bastante improbable.

Han pasado años desde que leí algo de MJ Davidson, y este libro me sorprendió en el buen sentido.

El escenario es un mundo donde los cambiaformas coexisten con los humanos, pero es un mundo secreto y subterráneo. Y viven con miedo de que pronto esto deje de ser secreto.
