Tenia curiosidad por este libro que aparece de repente en comentarios de otros libros, y, también porque sale en un fanfic que lei. La historia es sencilla, asi como el lenguaje, y la novela es cortisima, en buena parte porque al parecer el manuscrito original era para adultos, pero por instancia de los editores fue dividida en 4 partes y puesta a nivel de los niños.

LO MEJOR:

"Cartas de Papá Noel" de J.R.R. Tolkien.

Cartitas de Tolkien a sus hijos durante toda su infancia, con relatos cortos y dibujitos.

La ternura del Maestro Tolkien y su imaginación desbordante conmueven y deleitan.

"Wild Sign" (Alpha and Omega 6) de Patricia Briggs. Un campamento donde todos han desaparecido desentraña cosas del pasado de la familia de Charles.

Patricia Briggs es una de mis autoras favoritas de Fantasia Urbana, asi que no es una sorpresa que invariablemente ella -o Ilona- se conviertan en mis mejores lecturas del año. Y aunque su serie paralela Mercy Thompson sigue pareciéndome mejor, este volumen apunta a un personaje poco visto y querido en su universo : Leah. Asi como vemos la fuerza que ha ganado Anna junto a Charles.

 

Drama taiwanes recomendado: Lost Romance 2020

"LOST ROMANCE" (ROMANCE PERDIDO, 2020)  Es uno de los mejores dramas que he visto el año pasado y estoy volviendo a ver, bueno mejor dicho es una comedia romántica 'isekai' (una persona que es trasladada a otro universo) . No deben perderse del encanto que tiene Marcus Chang aqui :D

Por una parte esta el drama corporativo de una familia que pelea por dinero y poder, y por el otro tenemos a esta chica que es una editora de novelas romanticas cuyo 'hobbie' es mirar al hermoso CEO del edificio contiguo para alegrar su dia, hasta que ve algo terrible, y después el CEO queda en coma y ella tambien ... bueno termina en este mundo que es la novela que ella estaba editando, y se dice ¿por qué no ser ahora la protagonista romántica con un CEO dominante? 

 

Hay mucha comedia en que se rien de todos los cliches del genero de los dramas (hay unas escenas de famosos kdramas que me parten de risa, como el paraguas y la bufanda roja de Goblin) , eso incluye reirse de la heroina pobre dulce ingenua (el loto blanco) y que se cae a cada rato para solamente caer en los brazos del poderoso gerente hermoso y millonario. ¡Tienen que verla! Vivian Sung se luce como la asertiva Zheng Xiao En determinada a hacerse valer frente a Situ Ao Ran.

 

 

 Es una pareja que tiene una quimica genial. Marcus tiene una sonrisa torcida y traviesa que... (suspiro.)

-"Juvenilia" by Lavie Tidhar - 2 stars. Fantasy.
Meh. going for a gothic tale furbling on metatale. After ww1, a woman took a job as caretaker at Wildfell Hall>; an isolated place and strange rules.

-"Anchorage" by Samantha Mills - 3.5 stars
Space opera scifi short story about a ship, it crew, and Geneve , with a background of internal battles and losing Earth, and an encounter with an Anchorage, a sort of space eremite. Had some twist in it.

-"The City of the Tree" by Marie Brennan -4 stars. Fantasy.
wow, another unknown author. I really like the style of the story, about clans of people of the trees, and invaders, traditions, and bringing help, and choices. Reminds me a bit to Martha Wells in Raksura.

For those that still are confused: NOT A COMIC BOOK.

Anthology of short stories and novelletes , ranging from fantasy to horror and post-apocalypsis.

Apparently a good portion of readers know Marjorie M. Liu from the graphic novel "Monstress, Vol. 1: Awakening", but I have been a fan of her ever since I read "The Iron Hunt" from her incredible urban fantasy series Hunter Kiss. Here she presents us with some of her short stories, of which I knew a couple; At the end of these Liu gives some comments from when they were written, some of which she considers to be part of the universe of her ideas (like Dirk & Steel), that is to say full of magic.

A fairytale about the younger sister , always told of warnings about dangerous things , and an... encounter. A bit in the mocking side, and not really understanding rules or knowing it. Though it looks more like a teaser for a bigger story.

Novela de ficción historica simpática, pero sin mucha profundidad. Tampoco le hallé mucho humor.

Es 1941 y Londres se encuentra bajo bombardeo alemán, por todas partes arengan patriotismo y conservar la 'normalidad' para presentar buena cara ante el enemigo. Eso implica que las mujeres deben trabajar y lucir lindas y compuestas con carmin en los labios pese a cualquier dificultad.

Chrysabelle es una Comarre , una raza mortal que son una especie de siervos de sangre criados para ese proposito: para brindar sus servicios o mejor dicho vender sus "derechos de sangre" a los vampiros nobles millonarios. Aparentemente tenerlos es simbolo de estatus , ademas de que su sangre es más pura y super yummy. Peero Chrysabelle tenia planes de ser 'normal' despues de su periodo de contrato de cien años en que su patron puede liberarla , pero la cosa sale mal, él es asesinado y ella escapa acusada de asesinato buscando forma de probar su inocencia.

Comentario personal:

Ryo odia tener que usar un uniforme de niña y esconderse de sus padres que lo empujan a ser más femenino.

Hacia tiempo que tenía pendiente leer un libro de la famosa Honor Harrington, comentario obligado cuando se habla de space-opera, y también por sus comparaciones con una de mis sagas favoritas (Vorkosigan). Hay quienes la comparan también con una versión espacial de Horacio Hornblower, aunque como de este último creo haber visto apenas un par de episodios hace un trillón de años atrás, diré que comprendo que será por la vida naval y la terminología, comandantes, navegantes , y el montón de políticas que afectan los rangos y ascensos (mira, ¡qué novedad!), aparte que estos viajeros interestelares snobs son de la Armada Real de Manticora, y cuentan con nobles (los primeros colonos , y con más billete). Una cosa que me llama mucho la atención, es que , vale,me trago lo anterior , pero ¿se baten a duelo? ¿todavia?

Linus Baker es un trabajador social de 40 años con 17 años de servicio que visita orfanatos gubernamentales de niños mágicos para realizar informes. That's was fun!

What can I say? I loved the drawing of this graphic novel.

The year is 2068, and Pan is a postapocaliptic zone near Paris, a few barely surviving scavenging among the radiactived ruins and cultivating some rice. 

Aster is an orphan girl, strange to the knit community so Aster is "Un-Pan", and she is unhappy with it. Her best friend is Wallis, and they go around together, despite looking very different. Aster is outgoing and athletic, and he's quiet, and you see him reading a book (Thoreau - really?)

Anna Thompson Marsali se sale de lo que se considera una típica heroina de libro de fantasía (o tal vez yo he leido demasiado YA y middle grade ;P) , con 47 años , divorciada y con hijos adultos, esta viviendo una etapa difícil principalmente porque una de sus hijas murió hace poco, y el trabajo en la universidad le tiene insatisfecha y en tensión. Ella es una soprano que nunca pudo dar el gran salto, principalmente por cosas conocidas como apoyar al marido, los hijos, y luego por cosas politicas de su trabajo en la universidad donde hace clases como instructora. Sí, ella se queja bastante, aunque es fácil conectar con muchas cosas de ella.

Agatha arrienda una casa en Fryfam, segun ella porque una adivina le dijo que hallaría el amor en Norfolk, a pesar de que todos le advierten en contra del invierno de alli, y con la idea de vender su casa en Cosfolds (James sigue de viaje en Grecia). La casa no tiene calefacción central, y pronto ella se siente solitaria a pesar de sus gatos, y ni siquiera las luces de colores en el fondo del jardin que los lugareños dicen en confidencia que son hadas le atraen en realidad, hasta que ocurre un robo y al poco un homicidio y Agatha decide de nuevo ponerse a investigar.

Una lectura muy agradable.

Samantha Wilson es una niña de 15 años que toma 5 clases avanzadas en la escuela secundaria, es un genio en matemáticas y también es analfabeta. Ella tiene dislexia.

Estaba buscando un libro sobre neurodivergencia para un desafío, y encontré este por casualidad, por lo que estoy agradecida porque me gustó bastante.

Cuando comienza la historia, Sam está teniendo un pequeño ataque de ansiedad porque su madre, después de un tiempo sin trabajar, ha encontrado trabajo en Oregon y deben mudarse. Esto representa una nueva escuela, pero más que nada la deja sin su red de apoyo: sus dos mejores amigas. Sin embargo, luego también decide empezar de cero, con personas que no se burlan de ella por ser idiota por no saber leer, y de ahí esconder su problema.

Elinor Roshdale es una de esas damas venidas a menos por un escándalo de su padre y su muerte que le ha dejado sin blanca, sin prospectos de matrimonio (el prometido la dejo botada), y tiene que hallar trabajo de governanta. Tras acudir a un puesto de trabajo y un empleado indicarle un carruaje y que la esperan, ella sube y se encuentra en el sitio equivocado, con el empleador equivocado, que termina haciéndole una propuesta indecorosa : casarse con su primo, un borrachin disoluto que esperan que pronto acabe muerto (!?), pero eso no importa porque después Elinor heredará una propiedad que esta en la ruina (ya ven , porque el primo es un tarambana). En una antigua y fantástica Ruta de la Seda, una pequeña familia de tres (mamá y dos hermanos) son cazadores, perdón, buscadores de 'Aweto' (una planta-cosita que crece sobre deidades de la tierra llamada 'chadolo'). Debo confesar que el 90% del libro estaba profundamente enojada con los protagonistas buscadores porque causan un dolor sin fin con su trabajo, robando a los pueblos de aweto (muy valioso por sus propiedades curativas) y destruyendo su forma de vida en ocasiones.

Basado en la increible historia verídica del robo del cerebro de Einstein por quien realizó su autopsia, viene esta historia con ese absurdo gálico que conocemos por algunas cintas y otro poco de fantasía. Sin embargo, el personaje principal no consigue ganarse mi simpatía (y menos aun el verdadero doctor en que se inspira: Thomas Stoltz Harvey).

Good idea, bad development.

I don't know what to say, other than to agree with a good part of the reviews of this book. A pity, because I wanted to like the book, especially for the addition of a brother with Down Syndrome, which is not something very common that appears. I think no one could even come close to the fantastic tv series "Life Goes On".

Such amazing people and history ; such floundering put story.

The grace of graphic novels is that it is a way of spreading stories in a simple way, sometimes on topics as important as this, so, on that side, it serves its purpose by highlighting the school for black girls created in 1832 in Connecticut. Not to mention that it could be said that it was the first integration of a black student in a school for white girls. But the canvas here falls short to demonstrate the courage and importance of the people who lived it. For the short time that could be.

¿Recuerdan "La Guerra del Fuego"? (y si no la han visto, busquen un dvd) Pues esta novela gráfica va por ahi, trata de una banda de Neardenthals de la tribu del Oso (sí, como Auel ;)), de los Torsos Rojos, donde en la cacería el jefe es herido de muerte por un bisonte inmenso al que llaman Barba Larga y pide a sus hijos que lo venguen. Laghu es el menor de los 5 hijos, es cojo, pero es un hábil artesano que fabrica armas y herramientas (me acordé aqui de Nooun el cojo del Tunga de Édouard Aidans), pero sus hermanos lo desprecian .

Desde la primera vez que vi Totoro, me han fascinado las obras de Miyazaki. Esta es una de sus obras originales que, lamentablemente, nunca llegó a convertirse en película.

Contiene las imágenes y los temas que son su seña de identidad, marcados por sociedades crueles y violentas en entornos distópicos. Donde hay un héroe compasivo dispuesto a sacrificarse por su pueblo, que no se conforma con lo fácil. Y donde la destrucción del medio ambiente, el desequilibrio de la naturaleza, crea consecuencias nefastas.
